One of the main reasons many species are disappearing is the loss of old-growth forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of Koe Kainuu\u2019s key environmental actions is an annual donation to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/luonnonperintosaatio.fi\/en\/\">Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation<\/a><\/strong>, which buys forest and wetland areas for permanent protection. These areas are essential for biodiversity and the climate \u2014 they offer safe habitats for species that couldn\u2019t survive in commercial forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/koekainuu.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/koekainuu-lahjoitus-luonnonperintosaatio-1-1024x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/koekainuu.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/koekainuu-lahjoitus-luonnonperintosaatio-1-980x663.jpg 980w, https:\/\/koekainuu.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/koekainuu-lahjoitus-luonnonperintosaatio-1-480x325.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">In 2021, the first donation was made to protect Puolanka Teerisuo.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The first donation was made in 2021 to help protect Teerisuo in Puolanka.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The donation equals <strong>1% of all income from the Koe Kainuu brand<\/strong>, including blog advertising, guided tours, and content production for partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year, Koe Kainuu\u2019s Facebook followers vote for which Kainuu site should receive the donation. In 2021, readers chose to expand the protected area at Teerisuo. In 2022, <strong>Tulijoki<\/strong> was selected through a tie-breaker lottery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to these donations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>650 m\u00b2 of marshland at Teerisuo is now protected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>120 m\u00b2 of ancient forest at Tulijoki is under conservation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>156 m\u00b2 of ancient forest at Nauruniemi is protected<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>240 m\u00b2 of forest and old farmhouse enviroment called Lasten mets\u00e4 (the forest of children) is protected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83e\udde1 <strong>You can help too!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Support the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/luonnonperintosaatio.fi\/en\/\">Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation<\/a><\/strong> directly \u2014 or use the services of Koe Kainuu. Every small step counts in the fight against biodiversity loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other accountability measures<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Blog<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blog articles encouraging people to hike responsibly, for example by reminding them of the rules of nature reserves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encouraging Finnish people to spend their holiday in Finland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proposals for cooperation will only be accepted from local companies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Programme services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wherever possible, tools and equipment are bought second-hand or made from recycled materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Domestic and ecological food containers are used for picnics <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kupilka.fi\/\">ecological Kupilka products<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The aim is to buy food from local shops and choose food that is produced as close to home as possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column]<br \/>\n\t\t\t[\/et_pb_row]<br \/>\n\t\t[\/et_pb_section]<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section admin_label=&#8221;section&#8221;] [et_pb_row admin_label=&#8221;row&#8221;] [et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221;] Koe Kainuu Adventures is our way of doing meaningful work and sharing the beauty of Arctic Lakeland Kainuu with others.
