Here, prices are cheaper and the places are not overcrowded with masses of tourists. Most of the guesthouses featured in this article are small family-run businesses. <\/p>\n\n

Arctic Giant <\/a><\/strong>* is located in Paltamo on top of Kivesvaara hill and it is especially easy to reach for travellers coming from Oulu. <\/p>\n\n

The place is known for som its birdhouse cottages<\/a><\/strong>* with huge, full-wall windows. The windows offer a magnificent view of Lake Kivesj\u00e4rvi, with Lake Ouluj\u00e4rvi in the distance.<\/p>\n\n

Each apartment comes with a sauna. The saunas also have windows, so you can look out over the landscape even while you bathe. Some of the apartments also include outdoor pools!<\/p>\n\n

The place is particularly suitable for couples who appreciate peace and quiet and nature activities. The Kivesvaara hiking trails start right next to the hotel. J\u00e4ttil\u00e4isenmaa also has its own rental shop, where you can rent snowshoes, fatbikes or even a canoe. The location is not the most optimal for downhill skiers, as there are no ski slopes in Paltamo.<\/p>\n\n

The Arctic Giant is also perfect for you if you dream of seeing the Northern Lights. The site is remote from the centre of Paltamo, so there is very little light pollution. In addition, from the high vantage point you can see far into the northern sky. <\/p>\n\n

In winter, the igloo rests on an ice cover. You can practice winter sports, for example the Vuottolahti skating track and cross-country skiing trails are nearby.
